THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOUR FIRST GEL BALL GAME!
May 12 , 2022
Are you about to venture off to your first gel ball game? Getting into the sport of gel ball is heaps of fun, great exercise, and a good way to meet new people. Just like with anything new, there are some important things you need to know to make sure you’re as prepared as possible for your first game!
Bring lots of water.
Gel ball requires a lot of quick movements to get around the field. You will be running around a lot and sweating a lot. A LOT. With Australian heat, you already know how important this is. Hydrate a lot, before, during and after!
Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty.
No matter what the weather conditions are when you play, make sure you wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty. You’ll be diving, jumping, rolling, running, and everything else that allows for your clothes to get dirty quickly. Make sure your outfit is equipped for this.
Extra tip: Avoid tight clothing. Ultra Elite Gels are a hardened formula of gels that can definitely sting on impact. Wearing looser clothes lessens your chances of this!
All of the cardio from running around on the field will have you need lots of energy. Eat a nutritious meal before your game, and bring nutritious food with you.
Never ever remove your eye protection no matter what.
Even if there’s a spot that feels itchy. Just don’t do it. To use gel blasters without eye protection is prohibited.
Get a decent pair of shoes.
You will do a lot of running in varied places depending on your chosen gameplay and field. You often will rapidly change direction or dive for cover. There will be plenty of opportunities to roll your ankle so make sure you have the right support in your footwear! Waterproof shoes would be a great bonus too.
Reach out to the community.
The gel ball community is a great place to get tips, tricks, advice, tech help and more! You can find different groups on the internet and players on social media who are willing to show you the ropes! It’s a great way for new friendships to start.
